House Cleaning After Construction & Painting: The Right Steps and Cost

The contractor has finished, but construction dust, paint and plaster are everywhere. Post-construction cleaning is different from regular cleaning, and doing it in the wrong order can damage floors and glass. Here's the right way.

🧱 What construction leaves behind

📋 The right order

  1. Remove large debris and construction bags first.
  2. Top to bottom: ceilings, walls and lights, then doors, and floors last — dust falls down.
  3. Windows and glass: remove stickers and paint spots with a glass-safe tool.
  4. Bathrooms: fixtures, tiles and silicone residue.
  5. AC vents: they fill with construction dust and must be cleaned before you turn on the AC.
  6. Floors last: vacuum the dust first, then mop.
