⏱️ First: act fast
- Remove the sheets and covers and wash them separately.
- Blot the wet area with a clean towel or tissues. Press — don't rub.
- Repeat with a dry towel until no more moisture comes out.
The faster you act, the less reaches the inside of the mattress.
🧴 Cleaning steps at home
- Vinegar solution: one cup of white vinegar with one cup of cold water. Spray lightly without soaking, leave 10 minutes, then blot.
- Baking soda: once it's only slightly damp, cover the area with baking soda and leave it for 8 hours or overnight to absorb the smell.
- Vacuum: remove the baking soda with a vacuum cleaner.
- Air it out: let the mattress dry completely in a ventilated room before putting sheets back.
⚠️ Mistakes that lock in the smell
- Hot water: sets the stain. Always use cold water.
- Soaking the mattress: foam traps water, which can lead to mold and a worse smell.
- Rubbing: spreads the stain and pushes it deeper.
- Mixing cleaners: never mix bleach with other cleaning products.
🧑🔧 When do you need professional cleaning?
- The stain is old and set.
- The smell returns after the mattress dries.
- Urine reached deep into the foam.
- Accidents keep happening and you want full sterilization.

Use a waterproof mattress protector, especially for children's and elderly family members' beds. It protects the mattress and makes cleaning much easier.
